Emoting Cake Pops

My first time to make cake pops, made these at home for my sister's homework in Photography class

As you can see, mine are not perfectly round (still need to practice hehe!)

To make your own Cake Pops at home you'll need:

  • Parchment paper
  • Trays
  • Ice cream scooper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Spatulas
  • Knife
  • Chopping board
  • Candy/Lollipop sticks
  • Styro foam (about 2 inches thick)

some Cake base (for as long as it's high in fat like pound cake, chocolate cupcake, butter cake or even cheesecake -- so it's easy to crumble and form into shapes again). Yes you may use cupcakes that are store bought, just use those without soft centers/fillings. To crumble the cake, divide them into two or four and literally crumble down.

some Frosting of your choice ( you may make your own by creaming unsalted butter and confectioner's sugar together, and add the flavor of your choice like peanut butter, chocolate ganache, coffee, caramel etc.) Just make sure to  use an ample amount just to make the crumbs come together again and  be shapes into balls.

Mix the frosting and the crumbs until it forms a uniform dough. (You don't have to overmix because you just want them to be fully incorporated). Using an ice cream scooper, portion the dough and shape into balls with your hands and place them on trays lined with parchment. Set them in the freezer for about 15 minutes or until it is slightly hardened but not frozen.

some Chocolates (you may use either Couvertures like -Barry Callebaut or Valhrona and Compounds that are cheaper and more available like Tulip or Nova) To prepare your Chocolate, chop then into small pieces with about equal sizes, the smaller slices the better, put them on dry stainless bowl and melt over double boiler (a pot of just simmered water) -- make sure the water won't splat into the Chocolates or they will seize. Once the Chocolates are melted, take them off the double boiler and let to cool down a bit before using. (You may melt the Chocolates again if it hardens)

Dip about 1/2 inch of the Lollipop sticks into the Chocolates and insert into the Cake pops, be careful not to skewer the whole Cake pops, just about half or it will break.

Then dip the whole Cake Pop into the melted Chocolate, make sure not to move the Cake Pop but instead, let the bowl swirl around it as moving the Cake Pop will loosen it. Tap your hands while holding the stick upside down to let the excess dippings fall into the bowl. Once the Chocolate is set, you may dip the Cake pop again up to 2or 3 coatings depending on your choice. At this point you may sprinkle the Cake Pops with Chocolate or Candy sprinkles before the Chocolate fully sets.

Use the styro foam to make the Cake Pops stand while drying and storing.

Mine, I used melted Chocolate and a new paint brush to draw the face -- you may also use piping bag with small tip or paper cones)

Cake Pops are the new Cup Cakes, as they are as cute, can be as creative, as funny, as colorful and as Party friendly. Making Cake Pops are uber fun! I like to make new figures/designs soon! <3
